A Saturday at Versailles

This last Saturday, March 3rd (I can't believe it's March already!), Lauren, Mary-Kate and I went to the chateau Versailles for the better part of the day. I'm glad I went now to see the insides of all the buildings because it wasn't too crowded in most places, and later once tourism season really hits it's going to be crazy. I'd like to go back when the gardens are all in bloom though. Maybe in a few weeks I'll have a picnic out there! Anyways, here's the pictures!

First Gate
Second, much more elaborate, gate
The chapel
There was a hallway that had statues of famous people, and one of them was Joan of Arc!
The ceiling of the chapel. It's funny because I learned about this ceiling the day before in my art history class. It's baroque style.
Pretty much every ceiling was painted beautifully, I just put in a few pictures.

I like this one because they painted the corner areas in 3D!
The doors were all beautiful too of course
I loved all the chandeliers
Of course, the Hall of Mirrors

I think this was King Louis XIV's bed
And this was Marie Antoinette's
Their dinning table
Versailles from the gardens!

The Grand Canal with gardens on either side. We walked all the way down and to the right to where Marie Antoinette had her little domain.

I call this the pretties ugly room I have ever seen. That yellow was even more mustardy in real life, and with the gold? Ick!

For lunch, we stopped at a little stand that was selling baked potatoes with stuff on top. I got the baked potato with chili, cheese and France's version of sour cream. It was delicious!
We wandered around a bit trying to find the little house that Marie Antoinette lived in and on the way we found a pasture with sheep. Lauren and Mary-Kate liked them a lot...
We finally found her house!
We wandered around the house a bit, and it was actually kind of small.

Then we went out to the gardens surrounding her house. I really want to come back here when it's officially spring time.
Looking back at the house, or "Petit Trianon"
This is the little hamlet that was basically Marie Antoinette's playground. It was so cute!

THE FIRST FLOWERS OF THE SEASON! DAFFODILS!

After we walked around in the hamlet for a little while, we headed back to Paris. I will definitely be back when the trees are in bloom again.
